C'apitalism is in crisis. The leaders of the Labour Party and the trade unions offer solutions that are in the interests not of the workers but of the capitalist class.

Socialist Challenge believes that the two vital fasks confronting revolutionary socialists are:

• To build broad-based class struggle tendencies in opposition to class-collaborationism in the labour movement.

non-exclusive i grouping together militants holding a wide range of political views.

To begin to fight for the creation unified democratic revolutionary socialist organisation which can, through application united tactics, begin to be seen as alternative by thousands workers engaged in struggles.

Such an organisation should be based on the understanding that:

The struggle for seeks lo unite the fight of I workers against the with that of other oppressed layers of society - women, black people, iberation. Tris socialism can thei struggling be achieved by creating new organs of power and defeating necessary means the power of the capitalist state.

Our infinitel, nurc uchucrall than what exists ir today. with full rights for political parties and currents that do not take up arms againsi the socialist state. The Stalinist models 'socialism' in the USSR and Eastern Europe have discredited socialism in the eyes of millions of workers throughout the We are opposed to them and will offer fuil support to all fighting for socialist democracy.

The interests of workers and capitalists are irreconcilable on a world scale. Capitalism has only created market. created polifies. Thus we fight for working class unity on an scale. This unity will in the long run be decisive in defeating both the imperialist regimes in the West and the brutal dictatorships they sustain in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

In Britain it implies demanding the immediate withdraw ai British troops from Ireland letting the Irish people determine their own future.

The Communist parties in Furope are in crisis. Neither 'Eurocommunist" the pro-Moscow wings have any meaningful strategy for overthrow of the capitalist state. New revolutionary socialist parties are more necessary than Conditions today favourable than over the preceding three decades. But such parties can only be rejecting sectarianism and seeing internal democracy not as a luxury but as a vital necessity. This means the right to organise factions and tendencies.
